Ile Des Phoques

2.5hr Scenic Cruise

Our business holds your health and safety as our highest priority under any and all circumstances.  As a reflection of this commitment we have designed new tours to Maria Island and Ile Des Phoques that reflect current COVID-19 practices and standards.  Our tours remain the highest quality and your satisfaction and enjoyment is still a guarantee from us!

Join our NEW Winter 2020 half-day Cruise to Ile Des Phoques!

This cruise is designed to give you all the excitement of our favourite place in Tasmania, the Ile Des Phoques (French for Island Of Seals) in a short half-day cruise experience.

The Ile Des Phoques has been our much loved place to cruise, swim, dive and explore ever since we began in 2007. The Ile Des Phoques is a small granite island that sits between Maria Island and Schouten Island.  It is an absolute haven for marine life and has been declared one of the best cold water dives in the world by National Geographic photographer David Doubilet.

Your cruise to the seals will depart Saltworks (Little Swanport, 20min North of Triabunna).  This estuary is a magical place to begin your scenic cruise as it gives views across Great Oyster Bay to Freycinet and Schouten Island.   On the way to this remarkable granite island you can see pelicans at the mouth of the Saltworks estuary, albatross, dolphins, sea eagles, Australian fur seals and whales (depending on the time of year) as well as majestic panoramic views of Schouten Island, Maria Island and the Freycinet Peninsula.

Once at Ile Des Phoques, we will spend 1.5hrs at the island, enjoying morning tea with the seals and exploring the giant rainbow sea caves (pictured above).  The caves at Ile Des Phoques are possibly the largest granite sea caves in Australia and with the right conditions, we can take the boat over 70m inside the island.  The colourful algae inside is lit with the morning sunlight as it streams through natural windows in the cave walls.  Seeing this natural phenomenon is one of the most breathtaking natural experiences in Tasmania.

Morning and afternoon tea is provided onboard and will include freshly brewed tea, coffee, orange juice, soft drinks, soda water and still water.  Home made lemon slice, fruit cake, gluten and dairy free fruit balls will also be offered on the boat.

Tour departs Saltworks at 10:00am and returns at 12:30pm.

An additional afternoon service will be scheduled on demand to depart at 1:30pm and return at 4pm.
